If you are backpacking and your budget is tight we have some options for you to consider. The prices of budget hotels at Heathrow Airport are similar to those for backpackers; you will not get much cheaper. The obvious advantages of staying at a backpacker’s establishment is meeting up and sharing stories with fellow travellers. Most backpackers staying at Heathrow would move into London, Hammersmith or the Ealing area so we have provided some options for you there. At Heathrow you can find some accommodation with free transfers to the airport. From Heathrow Central Bus Station at Heathrow Terminals 1 – 3, free public buses run to Harlington Corner where the Ibis Hotel Heathrow offers really good deals especially on the weekends. The Easy Hotel is also located nearby Harlington Corner.
Travelling towards Uxbridge on the U3 public bus (Chargeable £2.30 one way, cheaper with an Oyster Card £1.35) you will find The Kings Paget and the Oakwood Bed and Breakfast in West Drayton; they both offer good deals and are just 20 minutes from the airport by bus. For Heathrow Terminal 5 use the public bus – 350 also chargeable, the transfer likewise approximately 20 minutes.
For accommodation convenient for Heathrow Terminal 5 you could try the Heathrow Lodge in Longford, they offer reasonably cheap accommodation. The regular 423 bus operates from a bus stop not far from the lodge to the airport; in fact it is the first stop on the route.
The Revive Lodge, The St Giles Hotel and The Ambassador Heathrow Hotel offer reasonably priced accommodation close to Heathrow Terminal 4.
Travelling around by bus is the cheapest transport option, but depending on where you need to travel will take longer and may require multiple changes. The tube is cheaper out of peak times and gives me more options along the Piccadilly Line.
